Ship of Shadows Blog Tour (Review)

I was so excited to be asked to be part of this blog tour! I’ve always been such a huge fan on Maria on bookstagram so you can imagine I’m definitely going to be a fan of her book! I have been having so much fun reading this book and being a part of the tour. Make sure you check out the other stops on the tour!

I absolutely adored this book. It has been a long time since I have read Middle-Grade and I regret that it has taken me so long, this book was so much fun to read! A few chapters in I wanted to join the all female crew and go on magical adventures with them. I don’t know any young girl who wouldn’t want to be a part of this crew! I mean come on! They are a crew of female, bad ass, pirates!

All the women were such strong, independent characters that I will definitely be buying a copy for my niece to read it. They are just the characters that I think she could look up to and be inspired by. They all have individual talents that make them special. For example Aleja the protagonist is great with languages, she also loves to read which made her so relatable to my book nerd heart! I think there is someone for everyone to see themselves in. Their friendships are also amazing, they always have each others back and I really enjoyed getting to know them through Aleja. I can’t wait to see how they develop in the next book.

The Ship of Shadows crew are on an adventure that is described in such a way that you can’t help but feel that you are travelling right there with them. The imagery is gorgeous and I felt like I had visited a bunch of new countries.

If I had to say anything bad about this book, it’s that I don’t want to wait for the next one! A truly magical read!

Have you read this book yet? If not do you have any other pirate recommendations?

Aleja whiles away her days in her family’s dusty tavern in Seville, dreaming of distant lands and believing in the kind of magic that she’s only ever read about in books. After all, she’s always being told that girls can’t be explorers.

But her life is changed forever when adventure comes for her in the form of a fabled vessel called the Ship of Shadows. Crewed by a band of ruthless women, with cabin walls dripping with secrets, the ship has sailed right out of a legend. And it wants Aleja.

Once on board its shadowy deck, she begins to realize that the sea holds more secrets than she ever could have imagined. The crew are desperately seeking something, and their path will take them through treacherous waters and force them to confront nightmare creatures and pitch-dark magic. It will take all of Aleja’s strength and courage to gain the trust of her fellow pirates – and discover what they are risking everything to find.

Maria Kuzniar spent six years living in Spain, teaching English and travelling the world, which inspired her debut novel The Ship of Shadows. Now she lives in Nottingham with her husband, where she reads and writes as much as she can and bookstagrams at @cosyreads. She is always planning her next adventure.
